The type of lighting you select for a room can really change the look of your space. Try adding drama by using slightly oversized lanterns in place of pendants or chandeliers. Using lighting in this unexpected way can really make your room stand out…

Adding color in small ways can really make a difference in your space. Start with something you love—a great color or a unique collection— and finish the room with a few accents in a complimentary color.
The spa blue dish collection above, is accented with golden tones. Displaying a colorful dish set is a great way to personalize your space.
Accenting some of your cabinetry with paint, like this island above, is an easy way to make your space more welcoming.
Replacing your countertops with something more current will also make a big difference. The countertops in the photo above were accented nicely by painting the interior of the glass cabinets.
Don’t forget artwork — colorful art displayed prominently like this can really make your space.

Renovating your kitchen can be a daunting task. There are so many choices out there. I think part of the reason the white kitchen has become so popular, is that it reduced many of these choices…white cabinetry, carrerra marble countertop (or quartz look alike), stainless steel appliances, dark wood floors…done! Neutral color schemes are very popular, but adding a bit of color to a neutral color scheme can really enhance the beauty of the room. Try painting the ceiling in a great color to add drama. These three rooms are great examples of how adding color, in an unexpected way, can really change the look and feel of a room.
Some tips for pulling off this great look… 1. Use a great color. 2. Only use darker colors if you have high ceilings. 3. Keep the rest of the room neutral except for a few accessories (match them to the ceiling color or use one shade lighter).
Another great trick…try using a pale color on the walls and a darker version of that color on the ceiling.

Today’s post is dedicated to my 4 year old daughter, who reported happily that her favorite color is white…..White? Isn’t that the absence of color? This, from the daughter of an interior designer? Sigh. Well, I have to admit, as much as I love color, I do love the white look when it comes to interiors. I don’t see it happening in my home anytime soon though (white upholstery is not the best design solution for a house with kids) but until then I can dream…
